[Illumination FAQ] Vol.4 What does T5, T8 means? What are the mounting types?

Hello everyone. We talked about technical detail and little things about bulb last time. This time we are going to discuss about “tubes”.

When we’re selecting tubes, the package often marked “T5”, “T8” and “T9”. What does it actually means?

In fact, the letter “T” represents tube diameter. Using 1/8 inch as unit. T8 means 1 inch, which equals 25.4mm. Theoretically, the thicker the diagram, the higher the lighting ability it will be.

From the length side, T8 is 1198mm. T5 is a little shorter, 1149mm.

Besides tubes, the mounting can be different depends on needed lighting angle. For example, I-shape, middle-east shape, mountain shape, batten shape, T-Bar shape. There is logic naming.

        1. I-shape: tubes are placed as “I” with 2 downward reflecting plank. Since the design is closer, it suits for place needs concentrated illumination, such as packing or working place.

        2. Mountain shape: the structure is consist by upward reflecting plank. It looks just like mountain. Lighting angle will be different depends on tube volume. It will be placed on the top of the mounting, if it 1 tube. It will be spread on the side if it’s 2 tube.

Suit for working place needs wider lighting angle.

        3. Batten shape: the feature of batten shape is “thin”. It can be placed inside of mezzanine as second illumination (reflect). In order to produce smoother light.

        4. Middle East shape: A simpler mounting. No reflecting plank usually. It lights directly downward. Suit for multiple lights placing together. Such as lighting in convenient store.

        5. T-Bar: Using metal sheets to form cells. Increase light using rate with multiple reflection. The metal sheets need to be cleaned regularly. Lighting effect will be impacted due to dust. In addition, if the tube is broken, it need to be open up to fix it.
